Grassroots has been involved in UK touring and exchange programmes since 1992, when the Touring Troupe visited South Shields as part of an exchange programme run by CYEC. The current tour is organised and supported by Grassroots Arts UK (GAUK) and hosted by The Daneford Trust, a youth volunteering charity based in London.

To date, there is a strong network of community groups in Scotland, Wales, Norfolk and Yorkshire working to support Grassroots throughout the UK, which has led to an annual 3-4 month programme. Each region is represented by a committee made up of local volunteers, who arrange accommodation and subsistence for Grassroots and set up opportunities for performances and theatre workshops in a range of venues from schools/colleges to YOI/prisons and churches.
